Oxford Band Practice — August 2012 Meeting

August 14th, 2012 by Graham Newton

OK — Marcus has stupidly bravely allowed me to update the website.

So the meeting is at the usual venue at 7pm on Tuesday, 21st August.

After some discussion and a bit of unilateral decision making we have three songs:-

Knocking on Heaven’s Door Guns ‘n’ Roses style.

Rock and Roll from the truly great Led Zeppelin Vol IV album. The album cover was infamous for not having any identifying text.

And finally Rockin in the Free World by Neil Young.  Apparently the song title came from a friend of Neil’s who upon observing the Stars and Stripes being burned in Iran said that he thought they should stick to rocking in the free world. Slightly ironically the song is anti Bush (senior).

Now I have to attempt inserting the pictures and videos.

See you there — Graham.

“Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” by Guns N’ Roses

“Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin

“Rockin’ in the Free World” by Neil Young

Oxford Band Practice – June 2012 Meeting

May 24th, 2012 by Marcus Povey

Wotcha all, hope you’re not enjoying the summer sun too much to practice for the June meeting!

We will be at the usual venue at 7pm and will be doing two songs.

Once again, many thinks to Graham for sorting this out!

So, the songs…

“Lady Madonna” by The Beatles

Master Blaster by Stevie Wonder

See you there!

Oxford Band Practice – December Meeting

November 25th, 2011 by Marcus Povey

Ok Folks! December’s Oxford Band Practice will be at our usual venue on Wednesday 14th December at 7pm.

We will be doing two songs, followed by a Solo/Jam session to wind down. I figure you’ll all be getting ready for Christmas and so won’t have much time to practice!

Here are the songs, as usual TAB can be found on our songs page.

See you all for some Christmas rock!

“Whole lotta love” by Led Zeppelin

“Back in Black” by AC/DC

Oxford Band Practice – October Meeting

October 11th, 2011 by Marcus Povey

Right! October’s Oxford Band Practice will be at our usual venue on the 25th October.

We will be doing the following three two songs to start with, and as ever we have the option to revisit old favourites!

Here are the songs, as usual TAB can be found on our songs page.

I hope to see y’all there!

“Johnny B Goode” by Chuck Berry

“Like a Hurricane” by Neil Young

UPDATED: Because “Green Machine” is using a non-standard tuning, we’re opting to drop this song for now.

Oxford Band Practice – September Meeting

August 18th, 2011 by Marcus Povey

Ok, the September meeting of the Oxford Band Practice will be at 7pm on the 23rd September at our usual venue of Soundworks Studios.

Due to the availability of the venue, September’s meeting will be on a Friday. Clearly there are a lot of Oxford bands trying to finish albums in time for Christmas!

Anyway, as usual we will be doing three new songs (with an option of revisiting any old ones you fancy). These songs, in no particular order are:

“Communication Breakdown” by Led Zeppelin

“Paint it Black” by The Rolling Stones

“Whiskey in the Jar” by Thin Lizzy

Oxford Band Practice – August Meeting

July 20th, 2011 by Marcus Povey

The August Oxford Band Practice meeting will be at 7pm at our usual venue on the 17th of August.

Note that this is a Wednesday, not our usual Thursday slot.

Since it seemed to work last time, we will once again be playing three songs. So based on your feedback, here they are. I will have a hunt and see if I can find the tab and chords…

“Learn to Fly” by Foo Fighters

“Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival

“White room” by Cream
